What is a GI Tag?
GI Tag means the Indian government has certified the product's regional origin — Banarasi silk, Kashmir pashmina, etc.
The brass GI stamp on a haat product means the Indian government registered that craft as a Geographical Indication. The seller is part of a producer cluster authorised to make it.
Examples: Kashmir Pashmina, Banarasi silk, Channapatna toys, Madhubani painting, Darjeeling tea. There are over 400 GI-certified Indian crafts; not every seller carries one.
When you see the brass mark, you can click it to verify the registration on the official GI Registry portal.
